With the strength of a Bear
Kimmo's debut book won him a nomination for the most prestigious literary award for a non-fiction book (Tieto-Finlandia Award) and for Nature Book of the Year. In the book Kimmo takes us on a journey into the wildnerness of Finland, the home of predators of the wild. The book tells two parallel stories, one account of a boy affected by domestic violence; the other of wild brown bears. The reader decides whether to read the accounts together or separately. Both the photographs and the writing running along them are as much beautiful as they are sad. There is however an undertone of hope throughout the book. Finland's national animal, The Brown Bear, becomes the saviour.
